In the movie Tuntematon mestari (2018), Olavi, an elderly art dealer, is on the verge of retirement. As someone who has always prioritized business and art over his family, he struggles to envision a life without work. During an auction, Olavi becomes captivated by an old painting that he believes is worth more than its starting price due to its unconfirmed authenticity.
Driven by his instincts, Olavi decides to make one final deal to secure a substantial pension. Around this time, his estranged daughter Lea and his teenage grandson Otto reenter his life and ask for his help. Olavi and Otto embark on a joint investigation into the background of the painting, discovering that it is called Christ and was painted by Ilya Repin.
Despite successfully purchasing the painting, the auction house realizes their mistake regarding the initial pricing and turns against Olavi. In order to fulfill his dream and secure a comfortable retirement, the determined art dealer must confront both the auction house and his past mistakes.
