Space Cowboys (2000) is an action-packed adventure film set in the world of space exploration. When a Russian satellite goes off course, it is discovered that the guidance system has American origins. Bob Gerson, a NASA man, investigates the matter and learns that the satellite was actually designed by Frank Corvin, a skilled Air Force pilot who was part of the original team chosen for a space mission 40 years ago. However, due to a change in plans when NASA was formed, the team was dropped.

Gerson convinces Frank to help fix the satellite, despite Frank holding a grudge against NASA. Frank agrees on the condition that he and his former teammates - Tank Sullivan, Jerry O'Neill, and Hawk Hawkins - are allowed to go into space as well. Reluctantly, Gerson agrees and the team undergoes intense tests to prove their readiness. Eventually, they are cleared for the mission.

The team, along with two other astronauts, launches into space to repair the satellite. However, upon reaching their destination, they discover that they were not informed of the full truth regarding the mission. The film follows their journey as they face unexpected challenges and work together to save the day.
