Details
Roy Arnie, a stable-hand working at the miserable Circus Stromowski, has a dream to run his own circus. He invites his friends Gaz and Odd, along with their sidekick Flea, to come and work at the circus. However, their work ethic is questionable and they owe money to an irate criminal. The star attraction of the circus is Jimmy, a drug-addicted elephant who performs in a purple haze. Roy Arnie keeps Jimmy going with a regime of drugs to control his behavior. Jimmy carries a valuable secret that could bankroll Roy Arnie's circus, but freeing the elephant is not as easy as it seems. Jimmy is locked up after going on a drug-induced rampage, escapes, and runs away to the moors. Animal rights activists and the Lappish Mafia also want to free Jimmy for their own purposes. A farcical journey ensues with the stoners, vegans, mobsters, and an alcohol-fueled hunting party all competing to capture Jimmy. The only thing that can thwart their plans is a strangely compassionate moose.
This Norwegian animated film, Slipp Jimmy fri (released as Free Jimmy in English), is a darkly comedic and satirical take on the world of the circus. It explores themes of addiction, freedom, and the exploitation of animals for entertainment.
