Details

In Slaget vi Anzio (1968), Allied forces land at the Italian coastal town of Anzio without resistance. However, their commanding officer makes the controversial decision to remain stationed there, rather than advancing further inland. As a war correspondent, one experienced journalist decides to investigate the situation and borrows a jeep to make the treacherous journey to Rome. To his surprise, he encounters no German forces along the way.

Upon his return, the correspondent submits a report detailing the absence of the enemy. Unfortunately, his account is disregarded by military officials. Eventually, the Allies realize the gravity of the situation and decide to take action. However, by this point, German forces have arrived in significant numbers, leading to a prolonged and brutal battle.

Slaget vi Anzio portrays the tensions and challenges faced by the Allied forces as they grapple with the consequences of their initial inaction. The film emphasizes the crucial importance of timely decision-making during warfare and explores the experiences of soldiers caught in the midst of a fierce battle. Through the protagonist's journey to Rome and the subsequent fight against the Germans, the film highlights the courage and resilience of the soldiers who fought in the Anzio campaign.
