In the comedy film Evan Almighty (2007), Evan Baxter, a newsman from Buffalo, is unexpectedly elected to Congress with his campaign slogan Change the world. He and his family move to a large house in a new suburb in Virginia, and he is delighted by his impressive Capitol office. However, his excitement is short-lived when he is approached by powerful Congressman Long, who asks him to co-sponsor a bill that would allow development in national parks.
Unexpectedly, God appears to Evan, who initially finds it hard to believe, and gives him a divine task: to build an ark. Soon, tools and wood mysteriously appear in Evan's yard, animal pairs start showing up, and his appearance changes drastically, with his hair and beard growing rapidly, and his clothes transforming into those of a nomad. Despite the growing skepticism from his family, the media attention, and the drought that afflicts Washington D.C., Evan remains steadfast in his belief and continues constructing the ark.
Evan Almighty is a heartwarming and humorous story about a man who is chosen by God to carry out an extraordinary mission.
